Hello Foraging Friends!

Guess what I found in the produce section at Weis? Oyster mushrooms! They’re such a lovely looking bunch!
Every day brings a delightful surprise, even when things are a bit hectic 😂
This reminds me of “The Black Forager” Alexis Nicole Nelson’s video. She made a YouTube video about foraging foraged plants at a local grocery store. She took us on a tour of the market near her, showing us all the edible plants even some mushrooms, that the store had. Does your grocer or farmer have mushrooms available other than button and portabella?
This is the beauty of each season—we often have the luxury of getting produce that’s not in season. Honestly, many of us know, there’s a season for everything. Have you ever noticed what’s on the shelves when it’s not in season? How did it get there? I’m really grateful for all the people who work to bring all the food we need or want to specialty stores, farmers markets, and neighborhood stores, all working together to help us nourish ourselves. It shows that there’s some conscious value in everyone having good food. Still you can't beat the flavor and nutritive benifits from in season food.
It’s a beautiful thing!
If you love mushrooms, what’s your favorite, why? For a while, I stopped preparing my beloved mushrooms, because I developed a sensitivity to mold. Now, I’m also very careful about where I forage food, even when I can clearly identify them. Many mushrooms are the cleaners of the Earth. Let that sink in for a moment.
Learning about Ayurveda, has been very helpful, also. I discovered that oysters, maitake, chanterelles, and morels were among the top mushrooms for me specifically. They’re also among the easiest mushrooms to identify with some attention to the environment, especially the trees. A great reason to do your own research alongside your physician don’t you agree?
Let me share with you how I am preparing these oyster mushrooms? A wild rice mix with red lentils and mung beans, in a Buddha Bowl including dandelion greens.
Be well and stay hydrated.
